Drummer

"They say such nice things about people at their funerals that it makes me sad to realize that I’m going to miss mine by just a few days."
~ Garrison Keillor
New Orleans is famous for having a strong culture - big parties, delicious food, and amazing music. The Paris of the South has an interesting tradition at funerals. A procession leads the participants to the funeral. It is somber and morose to mourn the loss of the loved one. When the departed is laid to rest, the musical ensemble changes the tone of the entire event. The drummer changes their rhythm to shift the music and mood of the crowd. The mourning of the loss becomes a celebration of the life.
Sometimes, when facing challenges in life, we spend too much time mourning. Considering what was or what could have been. I need to be, or find, a drummer to count off the rhythmic shift. So I can stop dwelling on what was and start appreciating what is.
Do I have a grounding technique? Can I pause to recognize what is going well now? Will I answer the call when someone needs a drummer?
