The Bow
My youngest son has a neon rainbow-colored hair bow. I'm not sure where it came from. It is huge, almost as wide as his head. Sometimes I won’t see it for months, and then the bow appears for an outing. He recently came home from his guitar lesson wearing it.
My dad encouraged me to like what I like without worrying about its popularity. Since I try to encourage the same, I am cautious not to influence my children’s stylistic choices. His bow seemed very out of character to me. I gently asked, “I noticed you enjoy wearing that bow. What do you like about wearing it?” The quietest of our crew responded, “Because it makes people smile and laugh.”

Sometimes I find myself enveloped in seriousness. I forget to be intentional about having fun. I don’t always need to be concerned with how others might feel about something. I can like what I like. I can be me.
Can I find that small act of kindness to brighten someone’s day? When was the last time I caused a smile? What can I use as my rainbow hair bow?
Be curious, be kind, be whole, do good things.
